Losing my innocence

The deed is done, I'm no longer a gaming convention virgin.

I flew to Canberra last weekend to attend CanCon / Australian Games Expo 2009. This was a combination of two conventions, the first focused on miniature wargaming and role-playing, the second focused on designer boardgames. Although the "merger" attracted some controversy, and may have depressed turnout on the boardgames side (due to a late date shift), I thought the event was very successful.

I had booked a hotel room for three, hoping to find 2 strangers to share the cost, but in the end only one volunteered. That still worked out very well, as he had driven to Canberra and thus was able to give me a ride between the gaming venues and the hotel.

I'm a certain starter for next year's convention. Unfortunately, will miss Con of the North again this year.

Vital con statistics: in 2.5 days, 20 plays of 15 different games, spent $721 on 16 new games (and 1 comic book compilation), 5 showers, 2 beers (boo! light beers too), 10 hours sleep. Tame stats, but there you go.
