Carcassonne and its newest insanity

The other day I wandered into Games by James and I saw a catapult. Being a geek, naturally I couldn't leave without buying it. They also had quite the collection of other expansions and mini expansions for Carcassonne, and I was definately impressed with all the new stock...picked up the Count of Carcassonne as well. (The mini expansions basically replace the start tiles with something else, and Count puts a city with four districts and some interesting mechanics in there.)

The catapult basically gives you a chance to do one of four actions when you get a fair tile. Assassinate (knock followers off the board) seduce (replace the closest with yours) target (closest to the new tile) and catch (board halfway between you and person left of you, you want it over the board and them to not catch it.)

I've only played one session so far and it definately made Carcassonne more amusing. Ironically, three of my guys got knocked out. I'm not sure anyone elses did. There weren't too many times when anything else happened as we had a hard enough time aiming the 'catapult' as many of the actions require you land on the played tiles...but it's a great expansion for making Carc more of a 'fun' game and less a logic game. (Of course, I think its fun either way, but still.)

Anyway, I was obviously amused and hope to bring it to a game night soon. :)

Really?

Well, this is a strange turn for the game.

Catapults? Flying Meeples?

Look, I spend most of the time playing this game trying to keep the played tiles in a somewhat respectable order. I don't think my delicate sensibilities could withstand a full on assault that is clearly meant to disrupt my Carcassonne utopia.

No thank you, sir. No thank you.

Nah

The meeples don't fly...all that flies are very small cardboard circles/squares. It's quite non-disruptive and adds an element of silliness to the game. Which may or may not interest you, but I enjoyed it. I'm not sure how I ended up winning the game after three of my dudes got knocked out, but whatever works. :)
